Al Gore Continues to Remain Strong in the National Polls

I published the latest ABC News polls on the homepage yesterday. I did not really discuss the results of the polls because nothing really shot out at me as being any different from what we already knew. Well that was until I looked into the Al Gore polls and saw that he was clearly gaining support. He was consistently polling around 10% in January and now he is up to the high teens.

Pollster Jan Feb Mar Apr May June
ABC News 10.0 14.0 - 17.0 - 17.0
Fox News 11.0 14.0 14.0 16.0 16.3 -
Gallup 11.0 14.0 17.5 14.5 15.0 -
Time Magazine 9.0 13.0 14.0 - -

As you can see, he is trending upwards in all of the major polling organizations. The brilliant thing about all of this is that Al Gore has not even been running. His gaining 6 points in 6 months is not only extremely significant but it is just what he needs to justify running for the presidency. He can go to the American people and say that it was the American people that wanted him to run for President. So the image about him being a sore loser or desperate to become President or someone that is not the man of the people can be thrown into the trash.

The framework for an Al Gore candidacy has been setup perfectly for him.

Al Gore is not only doing well nationally but also in the early states where his name is still brought up in the polls.

Pollster Jan Feb Mar Apr May
New Hampshire - 8.0 11.0 - 15.0
Florida - 7.0 14.5 15.0 -

The thing about all this is that he has not announced he is running, he will get a tremendous boost in the polls once he runs. Many of the individuals being polled who would otherwise support Gore may not even say they support him thinking he is not running. So his true support could be as high as 25% based on the fact that the unsure vote is high and many see Hillary Clinton as a similar candidate.

The difference between Gore and Clinton may seem to be large but if Gore were to officially announce his candidacy, you will realize that the race between these two individuals is much closer.
