Bill Richardson Overtakes Barack Obama as the Democratic Candidate With the Most MomentumPublished May 21, 2007, 7PM PST Barack Obama was the Democratic candidate that had the most momentum to start the 2007 calendar year. The buzz surrounding his campaign has died down in recent months but that is not stopping his support from climbing. Obama is still doing relatively well in the polls, improving his overall support in each of the past 4 months. But Bill Richardson has asserted himself into the top tier of candidates by getting double digit support in both Iowa and New Hampshire. Latest Polls from Iowa/New Hampshire
So how did Bill Richardson overtake Obama as the candidate with the most momentum? Steadily! That's right, Richardson's campaign worked hard in Iowa and New Hampshire to get his name out there. He started out as the candidate with one of the lowest name recognitions in those states but things have turned around. People like what they see of Richardson because of his vast experience and his great sense of humor. Positive Campaign. Richardson is running a campaign based only on the positives. And he is promoting his vast political resume. And it is resonating well with the Iowa and New Hampshire voters. Richardson vs. Obama. Obama is consistently polling at around the same low-20s over the past couple of months. He is not taking support away from Obama and that is not the premise of this article. The whole premise is that the Richardson campaign is the one that is catching fire and making all the headlines for great poll numbers while Obama is remaining steady. Richardson still has a long way to go catch Obama but this is just a start.
From Unknown to Top Tier. Bill Richardson is still averaging single digit in the polls in each of the three states but he came from being an unknown candidate in January that barely got 1.0% of the vote to 10% in the latest Iowa and New Hampshire polls. Burden of Proof. Richardson still has a long way to go before he can convince voters that he has what it takes to win the presidency. He is still pegged by many as the "perfect vice-presidential candidate" but as more of the voters take a look at him, his poll numbers will rise. Campaign is Official. Richardson made his campaign official on Monday in Los Angeles. More Bill Richardson Articles |
