McCain's 7-day average deficit in Florida (4%) and Ohio (3%) still has him within striking distance.

Florida Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct
Obama 37.0 42.3 37.5 41.3 42.2 44.0 43.3 46.1 50.0
McCain 44.5 48.0 49.5 46.3 45.7 44.7 46.7 47.3 46.0

Florida and Ohio are critical to McCain's campaign as they were states that Bush won in 2004... Since McCain is not challenging Obama in any "Kerry 2004" states, he needs to defend all the states Bush had won in 2004 or else he is toast.

According to the General Election Florida poll by Rasmussen Reports:

Obama is viewed favorably by 57% of Florida voters, while his opponent is viewed favorably by 56%. Both candidates are viewed unfavorably by 43%.

According to the General Election Michigan poll by Rasmussen Reports:

Sixty percent (60%) of Michigan voters now rate the economy as the most important issue in the election, an increase of eight points from a month ago. National security is most important to just 13%.

According to the General Election New Jersey poll by Rasmussen Reports:

The economy is the top issue of Election 2008, and just eight percent (8%) of New Jersey voters rate the nation’s economic condition as good or excellent. Sixty-seven percent (67%) say it’s poor. Only four percent (4%) believe things are getting better while 86% say they are getting worse.

According to the General Election North Carolina poll by Rasmussen Reports:

Before these last three polls, McCain had been ahead in five of the six Rasmussen Reports polls conducted this year, and the two candidates were tied once. In all polls, the race for North Carolina’s Electoral College votes has been competitive.

According to the General Election Indiana poll by Rasmussen Reports:

McCain is viewed favorably by 59% of voters and unfavorably by 39%. Obama’s ratings are 50% favorable, 48% unfavorable.
