Zogby: McCain In the Game But Not Moving

10/16/08

Rasmussen Tracking: Obama 50, McCain 46.
Zogby Tracking: Obama 49, McCain 44.
Hotline Tracking: Obama 49, McCain 41.
Gallup Tracking: Obama 49, McCain 47.
Battleground Tracking: Obama 50, McCain 44.

AVERAGE: Obama 49, McCain 44 (Obama +5%).

The tracking polls average has McCain down just 5%. The average deficit for McCain has been in the 5-8% range for about three weeks now. McCain has tried a variety of tactics to narrow that deficit but all to no avail as he has been unable to get any closer.

The race does, however, come down to the states and that is where McCain's deficit looms even larger. McCain is behind in most of the key battleground states.

According to Rasmussen Reports:
It’s the first time since September 25 that McCain’s support has reached 46%, but Obama has now enjoyed a four-to-eight point advantage for twenty-one straight days.

According to Zogby:
"For McCain, he is in the game but he is not moving, and that's what he has to be concerned about," he said.

According to Hotline:
For the second consecutive day, the candidates are tied among white women. One week ago, McCain led white women by 6%. Obama meanwhile leads white moderates by 25% and white Indies by 11%. He also draws 21% of all conservatives, while McCain carries just 9% of liberals.
