A new poll indicates Republican Sen. Susan Collins has a 12-point lead over Democratic Rep. Tom Allen in her re-election bid, while Democrat Chellie Pingree has a 21-point lead over Republican Charlie Summers in the race for Allen's seat.

In the 2nd Congressional District, political outsider John Frary faces a big uphill climb as he trails Democratic incumbent Mike Michaud by 41 points.

In the presidential race, Democrat Barack Obama leads Republican John McCain in both districts. McCain trails overall with 35 percent to Obama's 56 percent.
