As for Obama, this is one of those rare states (i.e. the Appalachian ones) in which he runs weaker than other Democrats (like Clinton) might have. Obama garners only 29 percent of the white vote, and with African Americans making up only about nine percent of the electorate, that's a recipe for a wipeout. (Kerry won 35 percent of the Kentucky white vote in 2004.)
