Washington State: Obama, McCain Return To Pre-Convention Levels of Support: In an election for President of the United States in Washington State today, 09/23/08, six weeks from the vote, Democrat Barack Obama defeats Republican John McCain by 11 points, 54% to 43%, according to this latest SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KING-TV in Seattle and KATU-TV in Portland Oregon. Compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll released two weeks ago, Obama is up 5 points; McCain is down 2. Compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll released six weeks ago, before the Democratic and Republican National Conventions, before the picks of Joe Biden and Sarah Palin as running mates, Obama is up 3 points; McCain is down 1. Today, Obama takes majorities of men and women, across all age groups, and among both whites and minorities. Among men , Obama takes 55% of the vote and wins by 13 points, his highest total since tracking began in April. Among women , Obama takes 52% of the vote and wins by 8 points, his second-lowest total since tracking began in April. 8% of Republicans vote for Obama; 8% of Democrats vote for McCain; Independents favor Obama by 7 points. Obama wins lower income voters by 24 points, higher income voters by 4. Obama wins college grads by 24 points; McCain leads by 2 among those who did not graduate college. Obama leads by 24 points in Metro Seattle, by 5 points in the remainder of Western Washington. McCain leads by 18 points in Eastern Washington.
