Americans' Concerns Over Swine Flu4/29/09 Tags: Public Health From Rasmussen (conducted: 4/27-28/09)
» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat) As the swine flu captures its first confirmed fatality here in the US today (a 23 month Texas infant), Americans are a bit concerned about the swine flu epidemic. Rasmussen reports a majority of Americans (65%) as being very or somewhat concerned about the epidemic, while 33% say they are not very or not at all concerned. To this author the American public should be aware, but not fearful of this 'epidemic'. Though it is true that the virus is spreading, there is a cure for this outbreak. Contrary to myth, if treated early, one can survive the swine flu. This is not SARS or even the Ebol virus. Americans need to be vigilant and understand that viruses come and go throughout a population. If one feels sick and feels that he or she has the swine flu, it is recommended to see a healthcare professional (preferably a physician) to seek medical treatment.
