Americans Split Over Government Health Insurance Plan4/28/09 Tags: Healthcare From Rasmussen (conducted: 4/24-25/09)
» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat) An interesting poll came out of Rasmussen recently regarding the topic of healthcare in America. The polling organization asked whether it would be a good idea to have a government funded health insurance company to compete with private health insurance companies. The respondents were split on the issue, with 41% saying that it is a good idea, while 44% saying it was a bad idea. A government health insurance company would not be the same as universal healthcare, rather it would be like the current Medicare program. It would not replace the current private insurance programs, rather it would stimulate competition with the status quo. To this author this is a great idea; a government health insurance company would alleviate the woes of the healthcare crisis by covering those who cannot afford to pay their medical bills. It would probably be an extension of the current Medicare program and would be funded by federal taxes. If we cannot get universal health care, we at least must have a national program to help those afflicted with the high cost of medical care in this country.
