Americans Very Concerned About Nuclear Weapons In Pakistan5/5/09 Tags: National Security From Rasmussen Reports (conducted: 5/1-2/09)
» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat) As the Taliban in Pakistan continue to expand their influence in that country, the threat of a nuclear launch continues to grow. In a recent Rasmussen Reports telephone survey, the polling organization found that 60% are very concerned that the Taliban might launch a nuclear weapon, while 27% are somewhat concerned. This comes to the forefront as Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf resigned from office last August. Since then the Taliban, an anti-American militant group, has steadily grown their forces in that country. The Taliban continues to be the United States' greatest enemey, if perhaps the sole enemy in our current 'war'. The president needs to do anything and everything in his will to end all potential threats and bring those responsible to justice. Yet, we cannot rush into war as did our last president. President Obama has shown that he has the patience and intelligence to combat a problem and deal with it rationally. This author hopes that the administration use restraint when necessary and use our diplomacy first before using our military strength to alleviate this growing problem.
