Americans Willing To Travel For Healthcare5/24/09 Tags: Healthcare From Gallup (conducted: 5/16-20/09)
» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat) As healthcare costs increases, Americans are finding it harder and harder to afford adequate medical coverage. In a recent Gallup poll, Americans stated that they would travel abroad to receive medical treatments (including but not limited to diagnoses, surgeries, etc). What this poll shows is the American public's disfavor with our current health care system. Patients are being charged exorbitant prices when it comes to their health care issues while more and more Americans are being plunged into debt everyday. This has apparently pushed some to go to international hospitals to find medical care. While medical care abroad may be cheaper, they may or may not receive the same type of care that they would receive here in the United states. Our sad health care state is in dire need of restructing, lest more and more Americans die of unnecessary medical complications. We need a national health care system to catch those who have fallen through the cracks and cover them with adequate health insurance.
