Majority Opposes Salary Caps On Movie Stars, Athletes3/26/09 Tags: General From Rasmussen (conducted: 3/15-18/09)
» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat) Movie stars and athletes are perhaps the highest paid people in the world. According to a new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey, it found that a majority of Americans believe there should be no pay limits on these individuals. A minority believe that the government should cap their salaries at $1 million a year. To this author, although these types of individuals do get paid an exorbitant amount of money, pay limitations should not exist (especially if it is government imposed). This is bordering on communism and should not be tolerated in a capitalist society. Although government cannot dictate one's pay, government should have the ability to levy taxes proportionate to one's income. Those making over "exorbitant" amounts of money each year must shoulder a greater tax burden and therefore provide for those less fortunate. This progressive tax system does not punish the rich, but is only fair to those with less means.
