Majority Want Border Closed With Mexico To Prevent Swine Flu Spread5/4/09 Tags: Public Health From Rasmussen Reports (conducted: 4/1-3/09)
» Commentary by Kris Lazaro (registered Democrat) As the swine flu infection spreads around the world, Americans are increasingly growing wary of the public health implications of this virus. In a recent Rasmussen telephone survey, it found that a majority want the border with Mexico closed until the infection is controlled. To this author this public health concern is getting blown way out of proportion by the media. We all must realize that viral infections are all common, and while this particular strain is a little bit more lethal than others, this swine flu epidemic is no different than past flu strains. Closing the border with Mexico is not a good idea because the virus is already here in America. We have the drugs to counteract and defeat this virus, so the general public should not fear if this strain does indeed infect our communities. Proper identification and consultation with a physician are the best ways to prevent this virus from becoming lethal in this country. We all must stay aware, but not afraid of this new bug.
